A. PRELIMINARY
Islam
has a lot of figures, collector, and author of the hadith, one of them is Imam
Bukhari. He a most famous hadith expert who called "Amirul-Mu'minin fil-Hadits" (pemimpin orang mukmin
dalam hadis), the title of the highest scholars of hadith.
B. BIOGRAPHY
OF IMAM BUKHARI
His
full name is Abu Abdullah ibn Ismail ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Mughirah
Bardizbah, Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ismail, later known as Imam Bukhari. Born
in Bukhara in 810 BC July 21, the grandson of a Persian named Bardizbah. His
grandfather, Bardizbah, was adherents of Zoroastrianism, the religion of his
people. Then his son, al-Mughirah, converted to Islam under the guidance of
al-Yaman al Ja'fi, the governor of Bukhara, That's why he called
"al-Mughirah al-Jafi".
Bukhari's
father as well as men of knowledge, he is also very wara '(avoiding the
subhat / dubious and illegitimate) and piety. Narrated, that when before his
death, he said: “There is no illegitimate or subhat money at all on the
property which I have”. Thus, it is clear that Bukhari lived and was born in a
family environment of learning, religious, and wara '. No wonder he was
born and inherited the superior attributes of his father's. His father died
when he was young and left a lot of wealth that allowed him to live in a good
growth and development. He cared for and educated by his mother with diligently
and thoughtful.
Bukhari
excellence and genius have seen since childhood. Allah grant him an intelligent
heart, sharp mind, and memorization power is very strong, especially in
memorizing hadith. When he was 10 years old, he had a lot of memorizing hadith.
At the age of 16 years he was with his mother and eldest brother to visit the
holy cities. Then he met many scholars and community leaders of his land to acquire
and learn hadith, exchange ideas and discuss with them. In the age of 16, he
had memorized the Book of Sunan Ibn Mubarak and Waki, also find out the
opinions of experts ra'yi (adherents of rational ideology), the basics, and their
schools.
C. IMAM
BUKHARI JOURNEY
The
year 210 AH, Bukhari went to the House (ka'ba)
to perform the pilgrimage, accompanied by his mother and his brother, Ahmad.
The older brother then went back to Bukhara, while he himself chose Mecca as a
place of residence. Mecca is one of the important science centers in the Hijaz.
From time to time he went to Medina. In the both holy land that he wrote most
of his work and developed the basics of book “al-Jami' al-Sahih” and
introduction.
He
commenced his studies by visiting various Islamic countries for 16 years. In
his travels to various countries, almost all Islamic countries he has visited
up to the rest of West Asia. Told that he once said: "I have visited Sham,
Egypt, and the Peninsula twice each, to Basra four times, settled in the Hijaz
(Mecca and Medina) for six years and can not count anymore how many times I
visited Kufa and Baghdad to meet with experts hadith scholars". At that
time, Baghdad was the capital of a country that a storehouse of knowledge and
scholars. In the country, he often met Imam Ahmad bin Hambal and he often
invited him to settle in the country.
D. IMAM
BUKHARI FAME
Imam
Bukhari fame soon reached the distant portion of the Islamic world, and
wherever he went always been a subject of conversation. Hairan society admired
the extraordinary his memory. In the year 250 AH. Imam Bukhari visited
Naisabur. His arrival has been warmly welcomed by the residents, as well as by
his teacher, al-Zihli and other scholars.
Imam
Muslim bin al-Hajjaj (the author of the book “the as-Sahih Muslim”), said: "When
Muhammad bin Ismail (Imam Bukhari) came to Naisabur, I have never seen a
regional leader, the scholars, and Naisabur residents delivered a speech like
what they gave him". They welcomed the arrival of Imam Bukhari from out of
town as far as two or three Marhalah (± 100 km), to the extent that
Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Zihli said: "Whoever is going to welcome the arrival
of Muhammad bin Ismail in the morning, do it, because I myself will go greet
him". The next morning Muhammad bin Yahya al-Zihli, some scholars, and
residents welcome the arrival of Imam Bukhari to Naisabur, and then Imam
Bukhari entered the country and settled in the village the people of Bukhara. Over
the past stay in the country, he taught hadith regularly. Meanwhile, az-zihli
also advised the residents to attended and follow the instruction given. He
said: "You go to the pious people who are religious, follow and listen to
the teachings."
E. THE
DEATH OF IMAM BUKHARI
Imam
Bukhari did not just put all the intelligence and extraordinary occasion in his
most important writings (Sahih Bukhari), but also carry out the task with
dedication and piety. He was always a bath and pray before writing the book. Most
of contents of the book written on the side tomb of the Prophet in Medina. Imam
Durami (one of the teachers of Imam Bukhari) recognize the breadth of Imam
Bukhari’s insight of Hadith.
One
time, the residents Samarkand sent a letter to Imam Bukhari that it asked him
to settle in their country. So then he went to meet their request. When his
trip up to the Khartand, a small village located two farsakh before Samarkand,
he was stop by to visited his relatives who had lived there. however, in the
village Imam Bukhari became ill until his death. He passed away on the night of
Eid-ul-Fitr (Idul Fitri) in 256 AH. (August 31 870 BC), at the age of 62 years
less 13 days. His body was interred after noon, the feast of Eid al-Fitr, after
he passed a long journey filled with a variety of charitable causes. May God
have mercy and His good pleasure.

BUKHARI’S TEACHERS
His
wandering to various lands has brought Imam Bukhari with teachers who have high
credibility and trustworthy, which amounted to very much. Told that he stated:
"I have written 1080 Hadith received from teachers". Among the great
teachers were:

BUKHARI PUPILS
Among
his famous pupils were:
1. Abul
Husain Muslim bin Hajjaj An Naisaburi (d. 261 AH); constituent “Sahih Muslim”
2. Abu
Isa Muhammad ibn Isa Tirmidhi (d. 279 AH), author the book “Jami '”or “Sunan
Tirmidhi” and he was one of his closest disciple of Imam Bukhari
3. Abu
Ahmad bin Syu'aib Abdirrahman An Nasa'i (d. 303 AH), author the book “Al-Mujtaba’”
or “Sunan Nasa'I”
4. Abu
Muhammad Abdullah bin Abdurrahman Ad Darimi (d. 255 H); author the book “Sunan
Darmi”.
